Oh, I did enjoy this little book. An animal lover/eco warrior type man takes a job on a remote island working for an environmental charity, not really realising that it entailed hunting down and killing all the goats on the island (an invasive species that had taken over and all but obliterated the native species).Continue reading “Eradication – Jonathan Miles – 18.06.26”

Slow Gods – Claire North – 15.06.26
I love Claire North’s writing – I always find myself drawn into her novels and connecting with the characters. While ‘space opera’ or big universe sci-fi stuff like this is not normally my thing these days, of course I still read it because it’s by Claire North and of course I was gripped and enjoyedContinue reading “Slow Gods – Claire North – 15.06.26”
Strange Pictures – Uketsu – 10.06.26
My daughter read this book with her book group and though I might enjoy it, since I’m learning Japanese at the moment and interested in Japanese culture (my son lives in Tokyo and he and his Japanese wife are expecting a child soon, so I’m trying to learn enough to communicate at least a bitContinue reading “Strange Pictures – Uketsu – 10.06.26”
The House on the Strand – Daphne DuMaurier – 05.06.26
I read this book because I recently re-read Rebecca for my book group and was reminded of what a great book it is. This book is really quite different. Rebecca was written when Daphne De Maurier was very young (and passionate!) but this one was written much later in life and is more subdued andContinue reading “The House on the Strand – Daphne DuMaurier – 05.06.26”
The Diet Myth: The Real Science Behind What We Eat
– Professor Tim Spector – 28.05.26 This is a very readable book about healthy eating. Its thrust is very much about maintaining a healthy gut microbiome, by eating a variety of whole foods, good fats, fruit, veg etc and fermented or bio culture type foods like unpasteurised cheese, yoghurt , kefir etc and avoiding upf.Continue reading “The Diet Myth: The Real Science Behind What We Eat”
Wellness – Nathan Hill – 11.05.26
This book was recommended to my by my son-in-law, Chris, as a good book to bring with me on my holiday, lounging by the pool in Cyprus. He was not wrong! I was enthralled by the story and kept talking to my (longsuffering) husband about things that it was making me think about. It isContinue reading “Wellness – Nathan Hill – 11.05.26”

Redemption: (Department Q Book 3) – Jussi Adler-Olsen and Martin Aitken – 20.05.26 The second book in the Dept Q series, Disgrace, is a worthy follow up to book one. The characters of Carl and Assad are developing, and they get a third member of the team, Rose, an intelligent young woman with an acerbicContinue reading “Disgrace: (Department Q Series 2) – Jussi Adler-Olsen – 07.05.26”
Mercy: (Department Q Series 1) – Jussi Adler-Olsen – 30.04.26
Hubby and I watched the Scottish adaptation of this Nordic noir police procedural novel and loved it. I ragtag bunch of ‘misfits’ are hidden away in a basement of the police department and told to work on cold cases (well, only two misfits in this first book, I was forgetting that Rose doesn’t appear untilContinue reading “Mercy: (Department Q Series 1) – Jussi Adler-Olsen – 30.04.26”
The Names – (BOOKGROUP) Florence Knapp – 20.04.26
This was my book group read for April/May 2026. We all read it and we all thought it was a really well written book and gave it a unanimous 8 out of 10. (I was going to say we all enjoyed it, but then the subject matter was really quite disturbing, so perhaps ‘enjoyed’ wouldContinue reading “The Names – (BOOKGROUP) Florence Knapp – 20.04.26”
